Curious and imaginative by nature, they are open to new ideas and information and absorb both quickly.
This fact is most obvious to educators, who know from daily experience how easily young children learn.
This facility and openness are one reason why it makes sense to expose children to a second language
when they are very young.
Their brains are wired to pick up languages — quickly and effortlessly. In addition, their good ear allows them to mimic pronunciation accurately and to acquire grammar intuitively. In fact, the younger the child, the easier and more natural it is for him/her to learn English, or any second language.
This statement applies to all people, but especially to children. Playful and uninhibited, they learn
best while having fun. Singing and dancing, chanting and conversing, playing games and completing
hands-on tasks — all things children enjoy doing — are good ways for them to learn a new language.
All instructors recognize that children are individuals, with different personalities, talents and interests. Some children, for example, can focus on one task for a long time, while others can’t sit still. In order to
be successful, a lesson plan teaching English to children must address many different types of individuals. It should include a diverse mix of sedentary and physical activities, and of simple and challenging tasks.
As an educator, you carry a big responsibility. You have an important role to play in your pupils’ educational future and in their future as socially adjusted, productive citizens. With our Teaching Resource, we offer you a highly effective tool that makes English for kids easy. Along with the Lesson Plan, it contains flashcards, original English stories for kids, DVDs with original English songs for kids and an exercise package. It provides your pupils with an excellent grounding in English and gives them a head start for future learning in school.
The 100 lessons in our Lesson Plan are organized into 20 thematic units. Each lesson begins with a list
of target vocabulary and a description of classroom materials required for that lesson. This is followed
by detailed, step-by-step instructions. Many games and activities learned in early lessons are repeated in later ones, saving your instructional time and making teaching English to children easy. As the children become more familiar with the lessons’ games, tasks and routines, they will join in more rapidly and enthusiastically.
Still, it is not necessary for children to complete all 100 lessons to pick up basic English vocabulary or to become familiar with the language and its sound. Already in the first 20 lessons (Units 1-5), they learn:
- to introduce themselves and to greet other people
- to identify a variety of domestic and wild animals
- to name colors and count to 10
- to identify a host of school-related words
During these early lessons, they also learn English-language chants, dialogues and songs; hear original stories; play entertaining and educational games; and complete a variety of creative assignments that support their English learning and their motor skills.
By the time new teachers reach the end of the first unit, they will already have grasped how to use the
other 19 units effectively. Hence the familiarization period is short. There will be close to no downtime,
and children will enjoy the lessons from the very start. Our Teaching Resource saves your institution
much organizational time.
The answer depends on you, your pupils and your schedule. You might meet only once or twice a
week — or every day. You might wish sometimes to repeat a lesson. One very effective method would
be to devote one or several months of your normal schedule to our Lesson Plan. The more frequent
the lessons, the faster your pupils will pick up English.
Children up to 7 years old are introduced to the English language in an active, lively and playful manner that mirrors the way they learn their native tongue.
Through games, songs and dances, chants, dialogues, stories, exercises and other creative activities, they are immersed in an English-language world that is varied and entertaining.
